If you recently decorated your bathroom with a floral motif, complement the updated surroundings by adding an etched floral design across the glass shower enclosure that surrounds the tub by completing the following project. The results will add beauty to the room and will increase privacy while you are bathing or showering.
Materials
- glass cleaner
- lint-free cleaning cloths
- masking tape
- floral stencils
- measuring tape
- rubber gloves
- etching cream
- plastic bowl
- mixing stick
- paintbrushes (various sizes)
- bucket of warm water
- sponge
Clean The Glass And Secure Floral Stencils
Close the shower enclosure and clean the exterior side of the glass with a lint-free cleaning cloth that has glass cleaner applied to it. Dry the glass surface with another cloth. Decide where you would like to add the floral design. Line up stencils across the glass with the help of a measuring tape. Use strips of masking tape to secure the edges of the stencils.
Fill In Each Stencil With Etching Cream
Put on a pair of rubber gloves in order to protect your hands from being exposed to chemicals in the etching cream. Pour etching cream into a plastic bowl and stir it for a couple minutes. Use paintbrushes that are various thicknesses to fill in the stencils with an even coat of etching cream. Once all of the stencils have been covered, wait for the appearance of the glass to change. The etching cream will turn an opaque appearance after several minutes have passed.
Remove The Cream
Dip a sponge into a bucket of warm water and wring out the sponge until it is damp. Wipe the sponge gently over the cream-covered portions of the glass. Once one side of the sponge is covered with cream, rinse it off with fresh water and wring it out before wiping it over the remaining parts of the glass that are still covered with cream. Once all of the cream has been eliminated from the glass enclosure, carefully remove the masking tape and stencils. Gently pat the etched design with a soft cloth to assist with drying it.
Care For The Etched Design
The floral design that was added to the shower enclosure will remain intact as long as abrasive materials or cleaning agents do not come into contact with it. If dirty residue is ever on portions of the design, remove it with a soft cloth that has a small amount of soapy water added to it. Rinse the soap from the design with plain water once you have cleaned the floral pattern. Dry the etched design with a soft cloth when finished.
